Week one
A job, day by day, once approval is in
Days are an example. Your estimate gives the real range and what could move it.
- 01Day 1
Step 1: Set up and wash
Scaffold goes up, plants and walkways are covered and the house is washed.
You: move cars and pots from the drip line
You'll see: scaffold, plastic and drop cloths
- 02Day 2
Step 2: Scrape and sand
Failing paint comes off by hand, with a HEPA vacuum at the board.
You: keep windows closed
You'll see: respirators, bags of chips taken away each evening
- 03Day 3
Step 3: Wood repair
Soft sills, casings and boards are repaired or replaced to match.
You: tell us if you see a spot we missed
You'll see: new wood, primed the day it goes in
- 04Day 4
Step 4: Prime and caulk
Bare wood is primed, seams are caulked and nail heads are set.
You'll see: patches gone, edges sharp
- 05Day 5
Step 5: First finish coat
Body and trim take their first coat in the sheens in your proposal.
You'll see: the color from the board, now on the house
- 06Day 6
Step 6: Second coat and walk-through
A second coat, doors and shutters hung back and a walk around with you.
You: walk every elevation with the crew lead
You'll see: a punch list, not a surprise
The calendar
When exterior work is scheduled
A guide for the coast. Humidity, dew and rain decide the day, and we follow each product's data sheet.
Exterior repaints
The dry months are best for finish coats.
Oct to May
Wood repair and priming
Repairs can start earlier and run later than finish coats.
Sep to Jun
Color research and approvals
Samples and packets don't depend on weather.
all year
Storm watch
When a storm is forecast, we secure the scaffold and stop. Dates move; the work doesn't get rushed.
Jun to Nov
Scheduling questions
When can you start?
After the approval, if one is needed, and after the written estimate is signed. We give you a range of dates and say what would move them.
Do I have to be home?
No, but we ask for one contact who can answer questions and a clear path to the work.
What if it rains?
We stop, cover the work and move the crew. Wet wood isn't painted.
What happens at the end?
A walk around the house with the crew lead, a list of anything to fix and a copy of the product data sheets.
Pick a day for the first walk-around
We'll look at every elevation with you and write down what we find.
